New Directions for PSCA

12/13/06 -- Yes, change is a constant. And, it is with great enthusiasm that we share PSCA's new direction with you.

We learned a lot from you, the members, over the course of the past eight months. We see an opportunity to rebuild our organization in a way that will attract even more diverse membership and generate improved ownership of the association by our members.

Bottom line: to continue to thrive and be a resource to our local coaching professionals and the communities in which we all live, we need to change and grow.

For this reason, we are establishing a new format for our association.

  • First and foremost, PSCA as we have known it, is gone; we are “new” and “improving.”
  • We will be fluid and flexible with our structure and presence in the community
    • For example, our monthly meetings, which have had a standard format and meeting time (the 2nd Tuesday evening of each month at the Mercer Island Community Center), will no longer be “set.”
    • In place of the old format, we will facilitate a variety of meetings, presentations, study-groups, etc., scheduled so that you can choose the venue, timing and groups of coaches that fit your needs the most

We are well underway to making this approach reality. With this new format, you now have a voice and a community of people to and with whom you can market and organize your own meetings and educational opportunities! This includes virtual connections as well as face to face!

We welcome your contributions and the collective designing of our new year at PSCA. How?

  • On the Member Projects page of the website, you will find PSCA Grant Application information a blank form one and a sample of one that's already been successfully completed.
    • The completed one demonstrates how you, as a coach, can use the PSCA to bring your gifts, talents and interests to everyone in our community, on your terms and with the support and resources of the Association. (e.g. announcements, web registration, securing a location and potential funding)
    • If you like the idea of getting involved but don't yet know how, you can always peruse a list of suggestions and use that to jumpstart your imagination
  • Whatever your endeavor, a monthly meeting idea, a gathering close to your location, a presentation for a niche of the market, the Grant process will help you in three ways:
    • Submit a project for consideration to receive support from the PSCA Board and Committee volunteers
    • Network with other coaches to leverage the power of many in collaboration
    • Tailor your experience of belonging to PSCA by initiating and creating programming, events and gatherings that you find most empowering

Designing our re-invention and guiding that implementation is exciting and, many hands will allow light work for all. What are your talents? Your passions? Your interests in our coaching community? What can you contribute in a way that is fun for you?

We are also seeking volunteers to lead and assist in the following three areas of our ongoing transition:

  1. Grant review approval for incoming requests through our Association
  2. Project management assistance for coaches who are new to creating and have a red-hot idea to submit for a grant
  3. Technology Visioning! We are beginning the redesign effort for the web site and other aspects of our technology toolkit and we want to know what you, the members think will be most powerful:
    • For coaches
    • For prospective coaches
    • For prospective clients seeking coaches
    • For our communities to learn about coaches and coaching
    • And, what about other technologies such as the list serve, bridge lines, video conferencing, blogs, and other tools that help each of us leverage technology centrally purchased and supported by the PSCA?

If you have passion in the use of technology (even if using and implementing technology is not your forte), please get involved and help us identify what to develop.

We encourage you to stay connected with your colleagues through the discussion group on Yahoo and engage with the tremendous membership talent we have in the Puget Sound area and beyond. Our community is very much alive and there are some very exciting initiatives in place for the New Year and beyond. Join us! Add your voice. Make suggestions. Offer your wisdom. Help implement this new and exciting direction. We want you and need you to thrive and to grow.

Continue to stay tuned and check the web site regularly for continuous updates and opportunities to learn, to grow and to network within our dynamic Coaching Community. Add this to your “favorites” for easy connection: http://www.Pugetsoundcoaches.com.

The timing of this transition on the cusp of the New Year feels empowering. To the many of you who have been actively involved in our chapter over the years, in a variety of ways, we offer our gratitude for your presence, now and in the past. Your leadership legacy and wisdom have shaped our present and built a foundation for the future that is next. One of the best things about being a coach is the opportunity to hold a possibility - a way-big possibility for a better future for everyone we touch, including ourselves. Bravo to all for choosing our profession!

Best wishes for a very joyous New Year and a prosperous 2007. See you real soon!
