PSCA Discussion Groups Your Role

Play Nice!

Remember, you are effectively talking to a roomful of people. If you wouldn’t want to announce it to an open meeting of 100 or more, don’t post it here.

Use Good Judgment

When responding to any message, carefully consider whether your reply is more appropriately sent to a single individual or to the entire group.

Help Learning Happen

If you post a question that may be of general interest, invite respondents to reply directly to you and offer right away to post a summary to the group of the answers you receive. Not only will others benefit from your question, letting them know to expect it reduces the number of requests for you to post the results. Also, check the Coaches’ Resources section of http://www.PugetSoundCoaches.org to see if someone else had the same brilliant idea!

Make It Clear

When it seems appropriate to respond to the entire group, quote just enough of the original message to give your answer context and help it make sense. Any more or any less only makes it difficult to follow.

Identify Yourself

Always include your name in your messages to the group; not everyone will recognize your email address.

Play Nice – Part II

If you plan to turn on an automated reply feature on your email application, be sure to set your subscription status to No Email (See FAQ) first. No one wants multiple messages from you indicating that you’re not around to read your email. When the messages start responding to themselves, it gets particularly nasty for those who ARE around to read their email.

Know Your Audience

Keep your messages relevant to the larger group. Particularly, please note that not everyone wants promotional information about events or other offers. Those who do, subscribe to PSCAPromo (See FAQ) so please post such messages there instead.
